You may visit the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision website, which allows you to obtain information about inmates who are in a New York State prison. However, the information may not be used to harass or commit a crime against any person. If you learn information about an offender, you may tell others. When calling the toll-free number, you will have to provide the offender's name, and one of four identifiers (either an exact address, date of birth, social security number or driver's license number).Īdditionally, law enforcement may tell the community about sex offenders living in the area. You may also call the Sex Offender Registry at 51 or 1-80 to get information about all levels of sex offenders. By law, DCJS cannot list Level 1 offenders on its website.Įffective March 15, 2010, you can now register to receive alerts – via e-mail, text message, fax or telephone – whenever a Level 2 or Level 3 sex offender listed on the public subdirectory moves to, or from, a community of interest to you or your family. Information about Level 2 and Level 3 offenders can be obtained by checking the DCJS website, which includes a search for Level 2 and Level 3 sex offenders. Note: this is a basic list of responsibilities, please refer to Correction Law Article 6-C for more information. Law enforcement may at that time photograph a level 3 offender if that offender’s appearance has changed.
